In this Spanish comedy-drama 40-year-old Daniel, a financially
secure accountant, meets a stunning, 23-year-old, “straight” Bulgarian
refugee, Kyril (who is financially desperate), and falls
instantly in love. He invites Kyril into his life and his
bedroom knowing that he has other commitments (including
a fiancé in Bulgaria) and that he could never love
him back. In Daniel’s social circle this type of relationship
is common, one based on mutual needs rather than an equal
partnership. While Kyril is free to come-and-go as he pleases,
he forbids Daniel to see other men under the threat of violence.
As Daniel falls deeper in love he is increasingly drawn into
Kyril’s suspicious activities and transgressions including
mysterious packages, unexplained sources of income, and the
Bulgarian mafia. Eventually, Daniel is so caught up in Kyril’s
life he pays to have his fiancé brought to Spain and
finds himself on the wrong side of the law to protect his
Bulgarian lover.
