Jay and Steven, a singing duo called Y'all, struggled for nearly a decade to make a living with their music in New York and Nashville. They were determined to be the Sonny and Cher, the George and Gracie of their generation. They dreamed of hosting their own TV variety show called Hey, Y'all!, and they even recorded a hypothetical soundtrack for the show, just in case. Then they sold everything they owned, bought a 20-foot trailer, and hit the road for a coast-to-coast tour of coffeehouses, clubs, churches, and retirement homes, to prove, one town at a time, that America was ready for an old-fashioned, cross-dressing, folk-singing duo on TV. Jay and Steven hoped the trip would change their career. It did. What they didn¹t know is that it would change everything. In the California desert, they met Roger. The three fell in love, and Roger sold his van and moved into Jay and Steven¹s trailer, joining their life and relationship. They lived on the road together for two years, circling the United States twice. Life in a Box is the story of their journey, their unconventional relationship, Y'all's offbeat musical tour, and the striking variety of people they connected with along the way.
